L'Aquila, wounded Town. I spent some days of rest in Abruzzo with my family. The impact of the reality in L'Aquila has been shocking. There is no distinction between center and suburbs, ancient buildings and new ones, stores and schools, churches and museums....silence and desolation reigned in everything as the disastrous event had happened just a few days before. Whole boroughs are desert and the only people you meet are militaries who - I guess - watch over to avoid that looting ends what earthquake has began on April the 6 th two years ago. What about rebuilding? From this point of view the flood of words spoken on the TV sounds empty and distant. The devastating beauty of the Basilica of Santa Maria di Montemaggio, gutted and yet operative, remind me to a quote by Paul Valery: "it's easy to define the Beauty: it's what it makes you despair". While leaving L'Aquila I am desperate. L'Aquila, città ferita Ho tascorso qualche giorno di riposo in Abruzzo con la mia famiglia. L'impatto con la realtà della città di L'Aquila è stato scioccante. Non vi è distinzione tra centro e periferia, palazzi antichi e moderni, negozi e scuole, chiese e musei...ovunque regna il silenzio e la desolazione; come se il disastroso evento fosse accaduto da pochi giorni...interi quartieri deserti dove le uniche persone che incontri sono i militari che, immagino, vigilino affinché gli sciacalli non finiscano ciò che il terremoto ha iniziato il 6 aprile di oramai 2 anni fa. Ricostruzione? Visti da qui i fiumi di parole sentiti in Tv mi suonano vuoti e lontani; la sconvolgente bellezza della Basilica di Santa Maria di Montemaggio, sventrata eppure in funzione, mi ricorda una citazione di Paul Valery, "definire il bello è facile: è ciò che fa disperare." Esco da L'Aquila disperata.
