Too few research has been made to make fully ecological single use products, and I found interesting to bring out the story of Hampi, a company born to produce ecological products that also boost local comunities economy.

Hampi makes dinnerware, dishes, plates and bowls, fully made from the leaves of tropical trees. These plates are based upon authentic leaf plates which have been in use for centuries in India: the company improved the production technology to respect international standards, and the dutch Studio Smeets has re-designed the plates, improving their appeal and usability.

The production process itself its fully eco-sustainable, thanks to the shred Areca palm leaves, gathered dry from the ground of tropical zone plantation by natives and processed without the use of chemical agents. The dishes obtained are completely biodegradable and compostable, strong enought to withstand metal forks and knives, and can be used to serve any tipe of food: a truly amazing project that mixes ancient tradition and modern technology.
